Just in time for the graduation season,

Last year, I was invited to be the guest speaker of my Alma Mater, the Oas East Central School. At first I was really hesitant because I don’t have great achievements yet but I was excited to share my simple story to inspire the young ones to persevere in their studies despite the hardships.

Those who are close to me can attest that we had a life of poverty. Fraternity brods and sorority sisters witnessed how I survived with a thousand pesos allowance in a month in the University of the Philippines Manila. I only had a budget of 33pesos per day less the jeepney fare which was 6pesos.


But poverty did not prevent me to succeed. I took it as a challenge. Instead of joining rallies, I worked as a part-time Student Assistant at the UPM graduate school. I also accepted lettering, t-shirt and streamer painting jobs from time to time. Sa awa ng diyos, I graduated on time.

I’ve been working online since April 2007 and I can say that this is a legitimate home based business. The desperation to quit from Sykes Asia, Inc. because of an incompetent (sorry for the term) supervisor had changed my life. Truly god has plans for us. (God moves in mysterious ways, according to Nina, ay mali love moves in mysterious ways pala yung sa kanya). So I should thank my Team Leader for agitating me pala. Hahaha

I have gone underground after resignation. Because I don’t have a PC or laptop yet, I work at computer cafes at Barlin St or P. Noval near UST. I used to stay at a dorm c/o my generous brod and his wife Madam Luna. I usually work at night because the rates are 50% cheaper, which means additional savings for me. Even at night, the computer shops are full with students playing online games. (Lucky people! Very lucky indeed! When I was in college, 10 pesos was very precious for me! I only had 1,000pesos allowance for a month and yet these students spend 3-6 hours playing online. What a waste of hard-earned money).

Anyway, after a few months, I have decided to buy my own desktop and moved to Bicol for good. I decided to go underground and projected a “bum” image while in fact I had a steady income which is higher than the pay at Sykes Asia. Lol (I remember being humiliated by a Starbucks crew for asking a water refill in a plastic bottle. Imagine a face na parang “Eeew, sino yang dukhang yan na nagpaparefill ng tubig ditech?” Well sorry, isipin mo na kung ano gusto mong isipin tungkol sakin but one thing’s for sure…I earn more than you do).

Going back to the topic:

Making money online requires a good internet connection. I’ve been a satisfied SMARTBro subscriber for more than 2 years now. There were only a few times that I had lost connection and their customer service teams are reliable. They have replaced my power adaptor 2 days after reporting the incident. My bill was even prorated when I experienced “no connection” in my area.

I have the roof mount postpaid which is good because it is fixed at 999pesos a month. When going out of town, I use Smart Bro prepaid. As of the moment, I am using prepaid because I am in Manila again (to accompany my gf).

The only problem before was paying the bill until I discovered that I can pay through my online BDO account. Since then, I paid my SmartBro bill in less than a minute without leaving the house. You just have to enroll your account and that’s it, you can pay in a flash.

This saves a lot of my precious time queuing at the Smart Wireless Center, Bayad Centers or ATM machines. I can focus on my tasks, making more money online or spend the time sleeping. Hahaha.

It’s been a while since my last post. We just arrived from Manila. We were busy for two weeks processing the papers of my girl friend leaving for the Middle East. We spent the time going to different offices like NBI, Department of Foreign Affairs, POEA, Ateneo Professional Schools, Saudi Embassy, Saudi Recruitment Office, Manila Regional Trial Court, etc. I learned a lot of the procedures a nurse applicant has to go through which I think is not so easy. You also need more or less 20,000 pesos for processing fees plus 90USD for prometric exam if you have 2 years or less of working experience. (I promise to make separate posts regarding procedures that a nurse applicant would undergo).

But what’s good about the nature of my job is that I can work anywhere not just at home. The power of the internet has made things possible especially for me as an internet marketer. As long as you have computer and an internet connection, you can work anywhere, anytime.

I’ve spent my days in the mall to avail of the FREE wifi. Usually I stay at Starbucks or Burger King. I think some of you would like that kind of lifestyle. Imagine working at a coffee shop or at the beach.

Yes, that is possible! You can use SmartBro or any prepaid broadband of your choice.

It has been ten years when we graduated from high school. The years have been so fast then. I have heard news from some of our batchmates going abroad, some already professionals and successful in their chosen fields.

As for me, I’m still the same but life has been so good that I have found a niche in the online business. So I have come up with the idea of using this blog as an avenue to get thoughts, views and opinions if majority of St. Michael Academy (SMA) Batch 2000 graduates would want to have a reunion.

I have been getting queries regarding plans for a celebration. So I’ve contacted our batch President, Roger Rebancos, of his plans if there are indeed. We chatted over Friendster and decided to get your views. I have also chatted with some willing batchmates over Yahoo Messenger and Facebook as well. I have a couple of guys who confirmed but we need to set the date and place.

There are several factors to consider if we really wanted to have a successful batch reunion. It is better if majority can attend if not all could join.

So, I would like to know your thoughts so Roger and I can set an organizing committee before the year ends and start planning what we can come up with.

I have few ideas in mind which I think would be beneficial for our Alma Mater, the Saint Michael’s Academy of Oas, Albay. But before I make any suggestions, I would like to know if you are amenable to hold a gathering this April or May 2010.

Senator Noynoy Aquino visited Legazpi City and other places in Bicol last Sunday, October 25, 2009 and we had the chance to attend the multi-sectoral forum at St. Agnes Academy gymnasium. This is part of his presidential bid next year.

We had our lunch at Jollibee Albay hoping to catch Noynoy for the LP-Sorsogon Oathtaking Ceremony officiated by LP Deputy SecGen Henry Bacunay as per Tita Chris Ojano’s advice but the senator did not drop by. But I was fortunate to meet our fraternity brother, Mayor Jesse Robredo of Naga City (recipient of Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service, 2000) also member of the Liberal Party.

Senator Noynoy stayed only for a short period in the forum called “People’s Agenda for Change”. Different sectors from the Bicol region were given a few minutes to discuss problem/issues of concern. Sectors included the farmers, fisherfolks, urban poor, women, senior citizens and NGOs. Issues raised included agrarian reform, coconut levy, marine pollution, excessive mining, fish kills, illegal fishing of foreigners, disaster preparedness, education, housing and relocation.

The senator was given time to answer and to lay out his plans if ever he would be given the chance to lead the country but the broad answers sparked no enthusiasm from these various sectors because of the lack of concrete plans for their problems.

As a summary, Senator Noynoy Aquino said he would need the total support of the people in order to solve the problems we are facing. It is not enough to just seat him in power and leave the rest to him. He said he will need the full support of everyone in the entire duration of presidency (if elected) to resolve the numerous problems we are facing. People should be vigilant to curb corruption in the government. Prioritization of budget will be implemented to give attention to the needs of the people.
