The Oblation Run is an annual tradition of the members of the Alpha Phi Omega, one of the prominent U.P. fraternities and the largest Greek-lettered fraternity in the world. Notable members include US Presidents like George H. W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Gerald Ford, US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Sec. Silvestre H. Bello III, Associate Justice Supreme Court of the Philippines Josue Bellosilo, Mayor Jejomar Binay, Fidel V. Ramos, PNP Chief Jesus Verzosa, to name some. Oblation Run: The Ritual Dance of the Brave
During this event, members of the fraternity run around the campus naked to protest their sentiments about a current political or economic situation. The run started in 1977 to protest the banning of the movie, “Hubad na Bayani,” which depicted human rights abuses in the martial law era.
The annual Oblation Run of the Alpha Phi Omega UP Manila Chapter (in which I am a member of) will be on December 11, 2009, Friday. The actual start of the run will be at 12 noon.
There will be a forum regarding the oblation run and its theme for this year, “RED ALERT on CLIMATE CHANGE”, which will start at 10:30 AM.
