Yesterday, we’ve witnessed the inauguration of our new President and Vice-President.
But there are still a small portion of the Liberal Party (LP) who can’t believe that their VP bet was defeated by Jejomar Binay. I can’t blame them but they have underestimated the number of sectors that supported Binay’s candidacy.
Aside from the fact that it is “easy to sell” Binay’s name because of his accomplishments in Makati, one major force that contributed to his victory was his (our) beloved fraternity, the Alpha Phi Omega. As early as 2007-2008, he had announced his willingness to run for the top position of the land. However, a change of plan was made because of certain factors that made him decide to run as vice instead.
The fraternity in the whole country, with established alumni associations and college residents, has pledged its full support in whatever plans he had in the national elections.
He was the only candidate who was not ashamed to declare the name of his fraternity when in fact it could mean loss of support from rival fraternity members. But he has even earned the respect of some rivals and became hardcore campaigners.
And the rest was history.
I just want to share this short clip of the testimonial dinner tendered his Batchmates and Brods from the University of the Philippines in Diliman also known as Eta Chapter. The affair was held at the Metropolitan Club in Makati June 17, 2010.
